Freemax Maxpod Pod Kit Review: The Flavor Magic! [2020 Update]

Author: Alisa Yin / Category: Review / Published: May-20-2020

Following on from the success of sub-ohm tanks and mesh coils, FreeMax introduced their first pod system with the mesh coils. The Freemax Maxpod Pod Kit is a compact and portable device, which has a lot in common with the SMOK Novo 2 while introducing some of its own patented NS Mesh Coil technology inspired from the popular Mesh Pro line. It has a 550mAh battery capacity and a constant output of 3.3V. The Maxpod Kit is draw-activated and includes everything you need to get vaping immediately. It is a great starter vape.

Since FreeMax released the world’s first sub-ohm tank with mesh coils in 2017, they have introduced multiple vape products and have gained a wonderful reputation in the industry. A lot of people are huge fans of the Fireluke Mesh, Fireluke 2, and Mesh Pro, which are also my favorites for sub-ohm vaping. Could the Maxpod be the pod vape we’ve all been waiting for? Read the review to find out. I have to admit that I am so excited to see how it performs!

Build Quality and Design of Freemax Maxpod

The Freemax Maxpod is currently offered in 6 different colors, featuring a geometric pattern design. The first thing that strikes about the Maxpod is its small size. It’s 100.8mm tall, 21.81mm wide and 14mm thick and weighs only 56.3g! I can almost conceal it in my palm, making a very discreet vape. It looks very cute and the shape is very streamlined without sharp edges. The panels feel very comfortable in hand. I just want to keep stroking it.

MAXPOD is printed on the front panel and FreeMax is printed on the back panel. The manufacture information is engraved at the base of the device. A tiny LED light sits on the front panel. It will light up each draw and flashes when you insert or take out the pod cartridge. The left side house the micro USB port for charging. There are three gold-plated electric poles on the top of the battery. The overall construction is solid, and it seems promising in regards to durability.

Features and Functions of Freemax Maxpod

The Freemax Maxpod Pod System is one of the smallest vapes on the market. Despite its small size, it still packs in a 550mAh battery. It is not a powerhouse compared to those heavier and larger vapes, but it is certainly not the lowest-capacity pod vape. The Maxpod outputs at a constant voltage of 3.3V, roughly 8-11W, which is best suited to MTL vapers. The 550mAh battery charges to full capacity reasonably in a short time of an hour. The LED indicator changes color according to the battery remaining.

The Freemax Maxpod is very straightforward and easy to use due to its draw-activated firing mechanism. Just take a draw on the wide and duck-billed mouthpiece, the Maxpod will activate automatically and delivers satisfying nicotine hit within seconds. The airflow holes on each side of the battery part draw air in through the sides of the device. It is fully open and non-adjustable.

Quick Set-up Guide of Freemax Maxpod:

The Maxpod device comes without the pod installed. You will need to install the pod, fill the pod with e-liquid and charge it up before vaping. Do not vape until you have filled the cartridge with e-liquid or you will burn out the pod.

Vaping the Freemax Maxpod:

  • Inhale on the mouthpiece to take a draw, it will automatically activate and fire.

Battery capacity remaining:
The LED indicator will show the battery level while vaping and charging. It will flash 3 times when you install or take off the pod from the battery.

  • White light: 65% - 100% battery level
  • Blue light: 30% - 65% battery level
  • Red light: 0% - 30% battery level

When the battery level is under 30%, the draw will get noticeably weaker and unsatisfying. I recommend you charge your Maxpod when it is at a red light to ensure a great flavor for each puff.

Safety features:

The Maxpod comes with multiple safety features to ensure your safe vaping.

  • Red light flashes 8 times and stop working: low voltage
  • White light flashes 8 times and stop working: overload
  • White light flashes 3 times and stop working: short circuit

Freemax Maxpod Pod Cartridge

The Freemax Maxpod Pod made of high-grade PCTG material is refillable and holds 2ml of e-liquid. It comes with an integrated mouthpiece and two replaceable NS Mesh coils. It clicks into place rightly rather than attaching by magnets. I did use a strong force to take it out from the battery. The black mouthpiece is a bit wider and chunkier, which feels comfortable between lips.

The pod is dark-tinted, and I found it is hard to view the juice level even in a bright place. The side-filling port with a rubber plug is very generous and can accommodate most normal dropper bottles. Refilling is pretty easy. You should tilt the pod slightly when you fill the pod for the maximum juice capacity.

How to Fill the Freemax Maxpod Pod:

  • Remove the pod from the battery
  • Lift the rubber plug with your fingernail to expose the filling slot
  • Add your desired e-liquid into the pod
  • Tilt the pod slight to make the e-liquid distribute the pod evenly
  • Wait at least 5min to make the cotton wick fully soaked into the e-liquid before vaping

Freemax Maxpod NS Mesh Coils and Performance

The Freemax Maxpod Pod Kit comes with two different coils with their patented mesh technology for both nic salt and regular freebase e-liquid. The good news is that the coils are replaceable and feature a simple press-fit method. You don’t need to discard the pod when the coil is expiry.

Freemax claimed that the pods support all sorts of e-liquid on the market. I think they are best suited to the 50/50 VG-to-PG ratio and nic salt or e-liquid for satisfying nicotine hit. Any thicker may not absorb into the cotton properly, causing the unpleasant dry hits.

FreeMax NS Mesh Coil Manual:

  • 1.0ohm NS Mesh Coil: 11W constant output, Nic Salt (Best 20 - 30mg), Freebase (Best 3 - 12mg)
  • 1.5ohm NS Mesh Coil: 8W constant output, Nic Salt (Best 30 - 50mg), Freebase (Best 12 - 24mg)

Performance of Freemax Maxpod:

Both of the coils are great MTL performer with nic salt. The flavor is strong, clean, and crispy. It also gives me a decent throat hit and dense vapor. I have used many pod kits and some of them perform badly when it comes to the MTL pod with ceramic coils. Fortunately, FreeMax use the well-known mesh technology and successfully transfer their flavor magic from the sub-ohm tank to this new pod system. During testing, I got zero leaks or dry hits. It did give me more flavor! I have nothing to complain about.

Freemax Maxpod Pod Kit Review

To be fair the Freemax Maxpod is one of the best pod vapes for beginners. It is a worthy addition to the well-saturated AIO pod devices. It sets itself apart from the competition by using the unique NS Mesh Coil technology. The flavor is superb, which is much better than average pod kits on the market. Like most of the pod vapes, the Maxpod cannot replace your versatile box mod, but it is a perfect vape for on-the-go using.

Overall, the Freemax Maxpod markets itself to those MTL vapers. I will highly recommend the Maxpod to anyone looking for an inexpensive and stealthy vape with solid flavor and decent throat hit.
